“What True Crime Gets Wrong About Forensic Psychology”

With Julia Cowley, Retired FBI Agent & Profiler
Facilitated by Charlie Worroll, Host, Writer & Producer, Crimelines

About

I’m a forensic psychologist with a career spanning the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, a postdoctoral fellowship in sexually violent predator evaluation, and a decade teaching forensic psychology at universities in the US and UK. My specialty is violent and sexual offending — the psychological mechanisms, developmental pathways, and systemic factors that shape criminal behavior.

I’m also a genuine true crime consumer. I understand the appetite for this material because I share it — and I understand where popular portrayals diverge from the science. That gap between public perception and forensic reality is what drives my work as a speaker, analyst, and, soon, as the host of Consumed: Case Studies in Forensic Psychology — a podcast applying forensic psychology to true crime case analysis.
